Vinegar
It sounds funny but our kitchen ingredients can work wonders even to automobile parts. Vinegar is another type of acid called acetic and it can effectively remove rust from the tank. Fill the tank with vinegar and leave it for a night. The following day, drain the mixture and rinse it with water. Rinse the tank carefully to make the sure no acid is left. Once you have drained everything out, you can rinse it back with gasoline and other premix to avoid rusting.
Acetone
Another fuel tank cleaning option is to use acetone. Add approximately 2 liters of acetone and pour half of it into the tank. Once inside the tank, shake it aggressively to remove all the rust inside the tank. Check it every few minutes and repeat the process with the remaining acetone.
After using these elements, rinse it with water to remove the remaining dirt in the tank. You can use pressure pump to help you with the cleaning process. Dry the tank before filling the tank with fresh gasoline. If possible, avoid using the old gasoline as it might contain dirt and rust making your cleaning effort futile.
